Verdict: Two teams with Champions League credentials will clash here in this quarter-final, first leg tie, in Europe's second tier cup competition. Benfica have been in red hot form all season, topping the Portuguese Liga by 6pts and undefeated in 25 consecutive games in all competitions. Liverpool themselves are in solid form with 3 wins in their last 4 outings but it's their performances, more than anything, that have caught the eye.
Liverpool arguably played their best football for the season, so far, in their 3-0 defeat of Sunderland on the weekend. Torres scored his 7th goal in his last four outings and Gerrard looked like his former self. The English side's away form is a concern however, winning only one of their last 9 on their travels.
