Europa Cup 1st Leg

Everton v Sigma Olomouc

Thursday, August 20
Everton v Sigma Olomouc

Preview: Troubled Everton will face Czech opposition, Sigma Olomouc, in an evening that could define the home team's season. Everton were demoralised on the opening round of the EPL, losing to Arsenal 6-1. Everton's pre-season has been overshadowed with the Joleon Lescott saga and now, Moyes has taken the action of leaving the key centre-back away from the first team squad. Sigma Olomouc were impressive in disposing premier Scottish opposition in the previous round, defeating Aberdeen 8-1 on aggregate.

Verdict: Everton has a very small squad as it is, so with Joleon Lescott withdrawn from the squad, the home team will be forced to use either Phil Neville or youngster Jack Rodwell at centre back. I expect a positive response from the home team and with the firepower of Jo, Saha, Pienaar, Fellaini and Cahill, they do have the weapons to breach most defences. However, with Everton's frailties in defence there for all to see, Sigma do have the perfect opportunity to score atleast one away goal.

Pick: Over 2.5 goals @1.83 (Stan James, 8 units)
Everton 4 - 0 Sigma Olomouc
