Trabzonspor v Liverpool

Trabzonspor v Liverpool

Verdict: Following the 1-0 defeat at Anfield a week ago, Trabzonspor must feel that they are in with a great chance of progressing through to the Europa League group stages. Liverpool was uninspiring for the first 45 minutes of that game until Babel pounced on the stroke of half time, almost against the run of play. The goal, in addition to Torres’ introduction, seemed to galvanize the English side in the second half although chances went begging, including a missed penalty by Joe Cole. I was impressed with the Turkish side’s industry and calmness on the ball despite some nervy moments at the back when Torres got anywhere near the ball.

Since that game, Liverpool were swept aside by Manchester City 3-0 whereas Trabzonspor had a big 3-2 win over rivals Fenerbahce. In team news, it is obvious that Roy Hodgson has prioritized the league ahead of the Europa League with no less than 6 first team players made unavailable for this game. Torres, Gerrard, Jovanovic, Mascherano, Agger, and Maxi Rodriguez have all been rested for Sunday’s game against WBA. Trabzonspor will miss the services of Glowacki. Trabzonspor showed at Anfield, especially in the first half, that they can more than deal with a depleted Liverpool side. I expect the Turks to be stronger at home and give them a slight edge here, especially as they don't have to deal with Torres.

Pick: Trabzonspor DNB @2.05 (ibcbet, 10 units)
Trabzonspor 1 - 2 Liverpool
