Republic of Ireland v Algeria

Verdict: ROI will look to make it two wins in 3 days as they do battle with Algeria at the Royal Dublin Society Arena. On Tuesday, ROI beat South American qualifiers Paraguay 2-1 after goals from the impressive Doyle, and Lawrence. That win broke a 5 game winless run for the Irish. Algeria, on the other hand, have failed to impress since their dramatic passage through the WC qualification phase of Africa. The Algerians have registered just 3 wins in 9 encounters since then, suffering heavy defeats to Malawi (0-3), Egypt (0-4) and Serbia (0-3) in the process.

I believe the Republic of Ireland have a point to prove after the dissapointment, and injustice, of not qualifying through to the 'big dance' in South Africa. Performances late last year against the like of Italy (2-2) and France (1-1) have shown that the Irish can mix it with the world's biggest footballing powers. In positive news for the hosts, manager Giovanni Trapatonni, has insisted that he will remain at the helm as he believes the Irish team has good potential to achieve bigger and better things. Algeria play their first of two warm-up games before their date with Slovenia and I doubt their motivation and hunger will match that of their opposition today.

Pick: Republic of Ireland -1AH @2.10 (fonbet)
Republic of Ireland 3 - 0 Algeria
