Adelaide United v Pohang Steelers
Verdict: 2008 Asian Champions League finalists, Adelaide United, will look to put a dissapointing season behind them when they meet current champions, Pohang Steelers from South Korea. Adelaide United finished last in the A-League this season which was a big surprise considering they were predicted by many as legitimate title contenders. The Australian side though have added some very good players to their side. Argentinian midfielder, Marco Flores, played a big part in Adelaide United's two victories at the end of the domestic season. In addition, the home side have captured the services of striker Sergio Van Dijk, the A-League's 3rd highest scorer this season, from fellow rivals Brisbane Roar. Others to come in are reliable defender/midfielder, Adam Griffiths and central defender Nigel Boogaard.
The South Korean side has travelled from 14-17 degree temperatures to summer temperatures of 28-30 degrees which could have an adverse affect on the visitors. In addition, Pohang have played minimal competitive football since their domestic season ended in late October. Both sides met two years ago and Adelaide United came out victors on both occasions. With the home side finishing the season on a good note, I expect them to approach this fixture in a positive frame of mind which could prove to much for the underdone South Korean side.
