Verdict: Fulham gained a creditable draw at CSKA Sofia (1-1) in their first group game of the Europa League whereas Basel were impressively victorious in Switzerland, 2-0 against Roma. Fulham languish in 17th spot on the EPL table and face fellow strugglers, West Ham, on Sunday in a London derby. Basel have put together a fine string of results since that win over Roma with clean sheets and 3 victories on the trot in the Swiss Super League.
Fulham manager, Roy Hodgson, has insisted that he will field a strong side unlike the one that played against CSKA Sofia. Despite of this, he has rested key defender Hangeland for Sunday and it is expected that others will be rested with such an important game on Sunday. Basel have strikers in Frei and Streller who can take advantage of Hangeland’s absence and I expect the Swiss to take something from this game.
